Improving Procurement efficiencies
Improving Procurement efficiencies
Most often when hospitals grow into a multi-unit, multi-location entity, the supply of drugs and consumables is led more by clinicians at individual units – rather than the organisation as a whole. The outcome – lack of standardisation, low procurement margins, large width and high inventory. At some point in time, the supply chain morphs into a white elephant.
Using our extensive procurement experience, and experience with working with Clinicians on change management – we deliver rapid tangible bottom line benefits. To start with, in the pre-assessment phase – we first create a spend cube, breaking down the spends to the lowest possible categories. We carry out an operational model diagnostic – understanding the buying process and supply chain across divisions and units of the company. A detailed internal and external procurement price benchmarking is also done.
In this process we re-define, implement and over a period of time monitor the central formulary across the hospital network. We give a blueprint for the new procurement organisation, and the data management system. We follow this up by implementing a process of clinician engagement and change management to implement the paradigm.
